About Us

 History

On May 14, 1993, the then Department of Consumer and Corporate Affairs (Industry Canada) approved and issued, in accordance with, the Canada Corporation Act, Letters of Patent to and in the name of The Association of Professional Security Agencies (APSA).

The founding Directors of APSA were Harold Ball (Intertec Security Ltd), John Hughes (company name) and Deborah Coles (company name).

Since 1993, APSA has grown in membership to 18 security companies representing over 30,000 security practitioners, over 70% of the security force in Ontario alone.

APSA’s Head office is located in Toronto, Ontario with our Southwestern Ontario Chapter located in London, Ontario

Mission Statement

To enhance the image of the security practitioners industry across Canada through the maintenance of professional standards and adherence to a strict code of ethics.  Also to admit only those companies which demonstrate professional standards in keeping with the philosophy of the Association.

 To ensure that members in the Association are recognized by users of security practitioner services as the criterion by which all security service suppliers should be measured. 

To advance the professionalism of the industry through consistent training programs and information and education seminars. 

To inform the membership as to the availability and effectiveness of new products and services using the expertise from within the ranks of the Association to evaluate such products and services.

To promote the best interests of its members and the industry as a whole through effective dialogue with the law enforcement community, legislators and licensing bodies.

Code of Ethics

The Association of Professional Security Agencies recognizes the need to uphold the integrity of the Industry and the Association, and therefore mandates adherence to the following Code of Ethics as a binding condition of membership:

1. Members shall observe all laws in the performance of professional duties and exercise only the highest moral and ethical principles.

2. Members shall provide service which demonstrates competence, diligence, integrity and honesty to both their clients and employees.

3. Members shall ensure that confidential material is safeguarded, and that all employees are properly instructed to avoid improper disclosure.

4. Members shall uphold the integrity of the industry and shall not impugn the reputation or practice of clients, colleagues, or employees, either maliciously or otherwise.
